Favorite Things of This Week. #9

It’s the beggining of Peach Season.

This Chocolate Almond Smoothie

1 cup Almond Milk

1 banana

2 Tbsp. unsweetened cocoa-(This makes it a little overpowering. I only used 1 Tbsp. and it was plenty)

1 scoop of protein powder (you can buy plain egg white protein powder)

5 almonds

Zero Calorie Sweetener to taste. I think I used Truvia.

CMA Music Festival..I watched most of this on Monday. It was very fun. I even got to see Hunter Hayes perform twice. I am seriously considering getting tickets for next summer and going to Nashville for a weekend.  Speaking of Hunter, I found this video on Youtube. The girl you hear is a little annoying but the video is a little funny.

I finally got to rent the movie 42 from Redbox. Even if you aren’t a fan of sports movies I think you’ll like it.

I got a week off of work and was able to go to Hawaii for the first time.  That will be a post later this week.

These Made Me Tear Up

Where the Red Fern Grows. I’ve read this book so many times but the end always gets me. When little Anne drags herself to Dan’s grave...so sad.

1.  When you were little what did you want to be when you grew up?

I think I wanted to be a nurse or a veterinarian.

2.  What was your favorite way to kill time as a kid?

My first reaction is to say reading. I loved Nancy Drew, Harry Potter, and so many others. 

3.  When did you get your first cell phone?

Maybe this is a sign that I am getting old, but I didn’t get my cell phone until my senior year of high school.

4.  What is your favorite magazine to read?

Right now, I’d say Entertainment Weekly.

5.  What is the one random object people would be surprised to find in your purse?

Nothing surprising. I think I have fingernail clippers. The rest of the stuff in pretty standard: I have my wallet, some lipstick, pens, and my Ipod.

Favorite Things This Week

Switched at Birth

This show tells the story of two teen girls who discover that they were accidentally switched at birth. Bay Kennish grew up in a wealthy family with two parents and a brother, while Daphne Vasquez, who lost her hearing as a child due to a case of meningitis, grew up with a single mother in a poor neighborhood.

It’s actually a pretty decent show. All of Season 1 and 10 episodes of Season 2 are up on Netflix.

Parks and Recreation

I don’t know where I have been that I have never watched this show until now. I feel like a complete and total slacker. It is so funny, especially Amy Poehler. 

Michael Buble

Michael Buble had to cancel his appearance on the Today Show. He was supposed to be part of the summer concert series or something  but he made this video to explain why he changed his plans. I thought it was cute.

Thoroughly Modern Millie

I was able to go see a local production of Thoroughly Modern Millie. I think the soundtrack is so fun. The music is pastiche and very jazzy.  Here is one of my favorite songs from the show.  I love Sutton Foster.

Everybody Loves Hunter

I just have to love on Hunter Hayes for a minute. I think his album and new music are just awesome. I loved seeing him when he opened for Carrie Underwood. He is actually very good live.  Here are five reasons I am a Hunter Hayes fan  and you should be too.

1)    That Face-tell me you would not be thrilled to meet him in person.

2)    He wrote or co-wrote every song on his album, which I really admire. And, he recorded his first album when he was like nine. 

3)   Storm Warning. I was a fan when I heard this first single on the radio. Then I saw the music video and learned that Hunter Hayes played all thirtyish instruments that are heard on his album. Thirty! I play two instruments and even when I refer to the piano I use the term “play” very loosely.

4)   He is a dedicated performer

5)    His Youtube Channel is way fun.

Throwback Thursday-Childhood Friends

 

This week is all about childhood friends. This was my gang at 8 years old. Aren’t we cute?

I had two really good friends growing up. Jocelyn and Allie.  Here we are at one of my birthday parties. ( I am sorry for the lack of clear crisp photos.)  Jocelyn is the one banging me over the head with the present. Allie is sitting on the couch,  in black, the second one from the right.

Jocelyn. Jocelyn was a gifted story teller. I remember she once told me that her parents were paying for Lori Loughlin, Aunt Becky from Full House, to fly in from California and give her singing lessons.  I liked hanging out at Jocelyn’s House. She had a cute little daschund named him Oscar.  We played a lot, watched movies like Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and even did gymnastics together.

 Allie. She was a rebellious one. She got me in trouble a few times by convincing me to stay out on the playground after recess was over.  We loved just hanging out, discussing who are favorite backstreet boy was, jumping on the tramp, and make melted marshmallow goo in the microwave. I know, we were totally weird. Allie even convinced me to go see Spice World when it was in movie theaters.

When I moved and was close to entering Junior High I made the three greatest friends. Leslie, Sabina, and Dani. We love getting together and reminiscing about our summer camping experiences which included river rafting and rock climbing, being boy crazy, and singing the entire opening song from Beauty and the Beast, and other Disney songs, at the top of our lungs while hiking. Today it’s still a blast to go to dinner, set up a projector for an outdoor movie (which we did last year) and just have a good time. 

Last Week Leslie got married. Yay!
