Shailene
Woodley is Mary Jane Watson in 'Amazing Spider-Man 2'?
Though The
Amazing Spider-Man took a different director with Peter Parker's
romantic lead by casting Emma Stone as the blonde Gwen Stacy, it sounds like
the more familiar redhead lady in Spider-Man's life will return. Variety has
word that The Descendants star Shailene Woodley is in early talks to play Mary Jane Watson
in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
This news comes after a character breakdown was sent out to agencies that also
feature a role for Harry Osborn,
the character originally played by James Franco in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man
trilogy. In addition, rumors are swirling about the potential villain. Read more here.
'Hanna'
Helmer Joe Wright in Talks to Direct the 'Houdini' Biopic Now
Hollywood is about to
see an onslaught of magician films over the next few years, but only one of
them is a straight biopic about the life of the world's most famous escape
artist, Harry Houdini. The
project has been in the works for
years, and The Hunger Games director Gary Ross was
originally in talks to make it his next project after he passed
on Catching Fire. But now 24 Frames reports
that Hanna andAnna Karenina director Joe Wright is in discussions to
direct Houdini,
based on the popular
book that suggested the magician lived a secret life as a
British spy and portrays him as "Indiana Jones meets Sherlock
Holmes." Click here to read more.
Julianne
Moore is Taking a 'Non Stop' Flight with Liam Neeson Next
After the frankly
undeserved success of Taken 2 at the box office this past
week, it's no surprise that Liam Neeson's next film has become a hot commodity.
Robert Mark Kamen revealed
yesterday that Fox wants to make a Taken 3 (cue
the eyerolls), but before Neeson slips back into the Bryan Mills character,
he's taking to the skies for an action thriller called Non Stop. Variety reports that
the actor will reunite with Julianne
Moore after the two co-starred in the steamy, sexual thriller Chloe back
in 2009, as the actress has joined Non Stop in an unknown
role. Jaume Collet-Serra will
direct after teaming with Neeson on Unknown. Click to find out
more.
Christoph
Waltz Joins Mike Newell's 'Reykjavik' as Mikhail Gorbachev
The next time we see
Michael Douglas in a high profile role, he'll be portraying the flamboyant
entertainer Liberace in Steven Soderbergh's HBO biopic Behind the
Candelabra. But just because Soderbergh is stepping back from
the spotlight to "retire" (I'll believe it when I see it) doesn't
mean that Douglas is out of the game, too. He's already
signed on to step back into the fictional Oval Office to play
former President Ronald Reagan in a political indie called Reykjavik, and now THR reports
that the film has cast Christoph
Waltz as Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev with Harry Potter helmer
Mike Newell at the helm. Click here to read more.
Jon
Favreau Could Direct Ryan Reynolds in 'Battle for Bonneville'
Jon Favreau is
a busy guy these days. He recently scored an acting gig in Martin Scorsese's
upcomingThe Wolf of Wall Street, and behind the camera, he's preparing
to get underway on production of an adaptation of Jersey
Boys. Plus, he has Disney's Magic Kingdom simmering on
the back burner. But now, Deadline announces that New Regency is
picking up another project for the busy Iron Man director.
He'll direct Battle for
Bonneville with Ryan
Reynolds starring in the story of two brothers, Art & Walt
Arfons, who were racetrack rivals who joined forces to set landspeed records in
the famous Bonneville Salt Flats of Utah. Read more here.
Penelope
Cruz to Star in 'Gucci' About the Family Behind the Brand
A few years ago, Prometheus director
Ridley Scott was in
discussions to direct Gucci, a film detailing the death, betrayal, and incredible
power struggles in the family behind the world famous clothing brand, with big
names like Angelina Jolie and Leonardo DiCaprio being mentioned as the possible
leads. The film stayed dormant under the Scott Free banner as Ridley went on to
direct other things, but fast forward to today and it's still in the works. The Wrap reports
that Penelope Cruz is
now the frontrunner for the Gucci family matriarch, and the project won't be
helmed by Ridley, but instead by his daughter, Jordan Scott. Read
on here.
