Tom Cruise Continues
to Love Sci-Fi, Attached to 'Yukikaze' Adaptation
For those who love Tom Cruise in Top Gun and the actor's recent venture into
sci-fi with this week's Oblivion and the forthcoming All You Need Is Kill,
why not put all that in one film? Deadline has word that Cruise is now attached
to an adaptation of Yukikaze, a large-scale adaptation of Chohel Kamayashi graphic novel of the
same name set up at Warner Bros.
Set in the early 21st century, the story happens 30 years after an alien force
known as JAM has attacked Earth. But unlike most alien invasion movies, this
one follows humanity chasing the aliens back through an Antarctic portal to
their strange planet nicknamed “Fairy.” Read more.
Scandal's Tony Goldwyn Joins Divergent Cast
The latest bit of casting news for the feature
adaptation of Veronica Roth's Divergent should be particularly exciting for
those of us who tune in to Scandal each Thursday night - or fans of Tony
Goldwyn in general, of course. Following word that Ashley Judd was joining the
Summit's Divergent movie, to play the mother of Shailene Woodley's character
Tris, comes confirmation that Tony Goldwyn will play Tris' father, Andrew
Prior. Read more.
Wally Pfister
Also Nabs Morgan Freeman For a 'Transcendence' Role
Briefly: Though shooting is weeks
away from starting and a full cast is already lined up,
cinematographer-turned-director Wally Pfister is still announcing a few
names in his cast. The latest addition is legendary Oscar winner Morgan Freeman, who has been appearing in a number of sci-fi roles recently,
including Oblivion next week and Now You See Me coming up in the summer. Freeman is
obviously a key member of the "Nolan family", as Christopher Nolan is
producing Transcendence, the feature directing
debut of his cinematographer Wally Pfister. The sci-fi action film also stars Johnny Depp, Kate Mara, Rebecca Hall and Paul Bettany. At the moment, it's currently scheduled for release starting April 25th early next year. KeepReading.
Pitch Perfect And Snow White And The Huntsman
Sequels Coming In 2015
Universal Pictures kicked off their Cinema Con
presentation with a remarkable mea culpa, admitting that Battleship was a
failure and even that they never should have criticized people who predicted it
would be a flop. But they also quickly moved on to the bright side, announcing
sequels for two of their biggest hits of the past year, and one of them a
complete out-of-the-blue surprise that has earned a sequel they probably never
thought it would get. Read more.
Rachel McAdams is Joining Cooper and Stone in Crowe's Next Film
As if we would expect anything
less, director Cameron Crowe is rounding up quite an
impressive cast for his next film. The currently untitled project set up at
Sony Pictures with producer Scott Rudin already has Bradley Cooper and Emma Stone on board,
and now another great actress is getting involved. Deadline has word that The Notebook and The
Time Traveler's Wife star Rachel McAdamswill
take a role playing a former love of Cooper's character. However, we're not
really sure what the story details are in this film since it's apparently just
a reworked version of Crowe's old project called Deep Tiki from years ago. Read more.
