12 Days of Christmas-Day 5

Today’s Song is Baby It’s Cold Outside.  The music and words were written by Frank Loesser in 1949. There have been so many different recordings so I’ve just picked 2 that I like. Do you have a version that you like?

Country singing sweetheart Carrie Underwood has been tapped to play Maria Von Trapp in an NBC adaptation of the "Sound Of Music."

A network executive revealed on Friday that the former "American Idol" star will perform in a three-hour broadcast based on the beloved Broadway musical. It will air in 2013.

"The Sound of Music" was the swan song of musical writers Rogers and Hammersteign. Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer starred in the massively popular 1965 film, six years after the original show debuted on Broadway.

The production team behind NBC's "Smash" will produce the special. Executive Robert Greenblatt tells People.com, "Speaking for everyone at NBC, we couldn't be happier to have the gifted Carrie Underwood take up the mantle of the great Maria von Trapp. She was an iconic woman who will now be played by an iconic artist."
One of the most popular movie musicals of all time, The "Sound of Music" is based on the true story of the Trapp Family Singers. Andrews stars as Maria, a young nun in an Austrian convent who regularly misses morning prayers because she enjoys going to the hills to sing. She winds up becoming the governess for the children of the widowed Captain Von Trapp (Plummer). Maria falls in love with the Captain, and rushes back to the Abbey so as not to complicate his impending marriage to a glamorous baroness.  Maria and the Captain finally confirm their love just as Nazism pervades the country.

12 Days of Christmas-Day 4

The song for Day 4 is Silent Night. To go along with the theme Silent Night, here is a scripture from the Book of Mormon that I’ve been thinking about today. Alma 7:10-12 talks about the birth and Mission of Jesus Christ.

10 And behold, he shall be born of Mary, at Jerusalem which is the land of our forefathers, she being a virgin, a precious and chosen vessel, who shall be overshadowed and conceive by the power of the Holy Ghost, and bring forth a son, yea, even the Son of God.
11 And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people.
12 And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities.

Here are two versions by my 2 favorite singers. David Aruchelta and Michael Buble.

1.  What is the wallpaper on your cell phone?
A baby panda. There's no special reason or story, I just
think they're super cute.

2.  What do you keep beside your bed?
I keep a clock and my phone by my bed. Even though I have a nice clock I still use my phone as my alarm. I usually have some books and magazines by my bed as well.
3.  What is your least favorite chore?
I guess I’d say cleaning toilets. Also cleaning up all
the hair in my bathroom after I’ve blow dried and brushed it out.
4.  If you could eliminate one thing from your daily
routine, what would it be?
Actually waking up and getting out of bed is hard but
I’d have to say blow drying my hair.
5.  What do you do to vent anger?
I’ll vent to a friend, a coworker, or my parents. Or I’ll just
take a time out to calm down. I’ll watch some t.v. or
listen to music. It usually helps me a lot.
6.  What is your favorite holiday of the year and why?
Christmas is my favorite Holiday. I love celebrating Christ and becoming more aware of others. I love the lights and the music. I love spending time with family and surprising them with a nice gift. I also appreciate that we have a long break from school and the fact that I don’t have to work on Christmas.

12 Days of Christmas-Day 3

"I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day" is a Christmas carol based on the 1863 poem "Christmas Bells" by American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. The song tells of the narrator's despair, upon hearing Christmas bells, that "hate is strong and mocks the song of peace on earth, good will to men". The carol concludes with the bells carrying renewed hope for peace among mankind.

12 days of Christmas-Day 2

The song for day 2 is such a classic. Rockin Around the Christmas Tree.  I have to put this out there-the original is the best. You can’t beat it. This song was recorded by Brenda Lee in 1958. Despite her mature-sounding voice, Lee recorded this song when she was only 13 years old. Can you believe it!

12 Days of Christmas-Day 1

I absolutely love Christmas Music. I don't think there is ever a wrong time to listen to Christmas Music. So I’ve decided to bring back my own version of the 12 days of Christmas. Each Day for the next 12 days I will post one of my favorite Christmas songs (possibly 2). I thought this would be an appropriate classic to start with. This first version is Bing Crosby.
